PINK NOISE ANTWERPEN BELGIUM Type: SATB Founded: 1999 # Wonderful Supporting members 0 # Wonderful members 24 ABOUT Pink Noise is the enthusiastic GLBT-choir of Antwerp's own Active Company. The first cautious notes could be heard fourteen years ago in a dusky parish hall during the weekly rehearsals. It was under the guidance of Arto Van Bauwel that the number of members grew and the choir had its first successes. As early as 2001 the choir managed to organize successfully an international choir festival. ​ Abroad Pink Noise was a welcome guest too, such as in Hamburg, Amsterdam and Maastricht. Rehearsals by then took place in the beautiful Antwerp building of the ‘interpreter school’. ​ In 2005 Sabine Uijterhoeve took over Arto’s baton. She managed to achieve many highlights as well, a.o. in castle grounds in Breda, at weddings in the Antwerp Zoo, on bus 30 with ‘het Bad van Marie’ and the recording of a CD at the occasion of the tenth anniversary. The home base of the choir became the ‘Roze Huis’ in Draakplaats and it has been so until now. ​ At the end of 2012 Arto returned as conductor and it has taken him a lot of effort to prepare the choir in a relatively short time for the WOGA Choir Gala in August 2013. ​ Pink Noise is an all-round and cosmopolitan choir: from the Sound of Music nuns to Dorothy in Somewhere over the Rainbow; from Mamma Mia to It’s Raining Men; from Annie M.G. TAPALANOTE BRUSSELS BELGIUM Type: SATB Founded: 2006 # Wonderful Supporting members 0 # Wonderful members 49 ABOUT Tapalanote is the LGBTQI+ choir of Brussels Gay Sports (BGS). We are a gender mixed group of around fifty singers, some of whom are just beginning to discover choral singing while others are improving their vocal skills through this common musical project. ​ When choosing a name for our choir, Tapalanote (you’re out of tune in French), we wanted to convey that we get together, not only to sing but also to laugh and have fun. It also underlines how there is more than just wanting to sing together that brings us together: it's also about promoting LGBTQI+ rights and sharing a creative moment, in a friendly atmosphere. ​ We have a very wide repertoire, ranging from pop to variéte, world music and jazz. Our music reflects who we are: a choir that thrives on diversity, respect, and fun! ​ The choir is led by a professional choir conductor, Yvonne Duong. She studied music at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and Sorbonne University. LONDON GAY MEN'S CHORUS LONDON UNITED KINGDOM Type: TTBB Founded: 1991 # Wonderful Supporting members 85 # Wonderful members 210 ABOUT In 1991, nine friends came together to sing a few Christmas carols at Angel Underground Station hoping to raise a few pounds for the Terrance Higgins Trust. London was in the midst of the AIDS crisis and the men, who belonged to a social group called London Friend sang together to find a place of support, of friendship and of brotherhood. Little did they know what they had kickstarted. Fast-forward 20 years later, and this once small band of singers now calls itself the London Gay Men's Chorus. Boasting over 200 members, the LGMC is the largest gay choir in Europe and regularly plays to sell-out crowds at Southbank Centre, Cadogan Hall and the Roundhouse. Over the years, the chorus has been lucky enough to have worked with a diverse range of artists including pop stars Mark Ronson and Elton John, soprano Lesley Garrett, country legend Dolly Parton, musical theatre star Hannah Waddingham, actor Simon Callow and comedienne Sandi Toksvig. The LGMC has also appeared on Children In Need, Comic Relief, The One Show, The Graham Norton Show and Top of the Pops. In 2012 the London Gay Men's Chorus celebrated their 21st anniversary with a sell-out performance at the Royal Festival Hall, in which they sang with a youth chorus comprising of schoolchildren from around North London alongside autistic pupils from the Riverside School. Establishing a reputation for high energy, surprising and technically accomplished performances, the chorus has, since 2008, appeared at Edinburgh Festival and has performed internationally from Warsaw to Sydney. During 2013, the London Gay Men's Chorus is both the official choir of Covent Garden and choir-in-residence at the Museum of London. The chorus's groundbreaking education programme sees members of the ensemble conducting workshops in schools across London, working with teachers and pupils to eradicate homophobia from the classroom. Taktlos ist ein FrauenLesbenChor, weil hier Lesben gemeinsam singen und uns das gemeinsame lesbische Leben wichtig ist. MANNENKOOR CANTARELLI LEUVEN BELGIUM Type: SATB Members: 28 Founded: 1999 ABOUT Liefde voor... ​ In 2010 bracht een gemeenschappelijke liefde enkele vrijwilligers van Holebihuis Vlaams-Brabant samen: muziek. Uit die liefde ontsproot een enthousiast mannenkoor met de naam Cantarelli. ​ Ondertussen zijn we een hechte vriendenkring geworden van een vijftiental mannen, een groep van verschillende leeftijden en met verschillende stemmen. ​ Kom meedoen! Elke zondagavond om 20u komen we samen in het Holebihuis om in een gezellige sfeer te werken aan muzikale vorming en een eigen koorklank. ​ Dankzij een divers repertoire dat varieert van gregoriaans, over klassieke koorwerken tot pop- en musicalstukken kunnen we op allerlei gelegenheden onze stukken voor een publiek brengen: gaande van koortornooien, missen, concerten, eigen producties tot recepties. DIE KESSEN BERLINESSEN BERLIN GERMANY Type: SSAA Founded: 2006 # Wonderful Supporting members 0 # Wonderful members 22 ABOUT Im März 2006 gründeten sieben singbegeisterte, frauenliebende Frauen aus Berlin unter der Leitung von Barbarella Olm einen Chor, der geprägt sein sollte von der Lust am Singen und dem Spaß an der Gemeinschaft im Chor und an gemeinsamen Auftritten. Inzwischen sind wir 20 Frauen gemischten Alters, die über das Lesbenleben mit seinen schönen, skurrilen und auch schattigen Seiten singen und damit auf die Bühne gehen. Wir singen eine bunte Mischung von Liedern aus den 20er Jahren bis zu modernem Pop. Oft dichten wir Lieder um, um (nicht ohne Selbstironie) lesbische Lebensweisen aufs Korn zu nehmen. KVINNOKÖREN SAPPHONIA STOCKHOLM SWEDEN Type: SSAA Members: 40 Founded: 1984 ABOUT Kvinnokören Sapphonia har funnits sedan 1984 och hette från början Kvinnohuskören. Den leds av Frida Andréasson. ​ Kören är en obunden förening hemmahörande i Stockholm. Just nu är vi cirka 35 medlemmar uppdelade på de fyra stämmorna. ​ Körens ändamål är att genom körsång och konserter utvecklas musikaliskt och synliggöra lesbisk kultur och musik. Repertoaren är blandad och består av såväl klassiskt som modernt material. Vår körledare bidrar med egna körarrangemang. ​ Vi samarbetar ofta med andra körer, främst Stockholms Gaykör. ​ Vanligtvis ger vi en konsert på våren, och under Pride-veckan deltar vi i Kärlekens mässa. Det har blivit en kär tradition att hålla julkonsert varje år i december tillsammans med Stockholms Gaykör. ​ Kören har uppträtt på körfestivaler i London, Berlin och Kiel. Vi har satt upp en egen kabaré och sjungit på ett flertal olika platser som t ex Oslo, Köpenhamn och Göteborg. 1992 tilldelades kören Gay-bokhandeln Rosa Rummets Kulturpris. ​ I februari 2012 medverkade kören på QX Gaygala, som även sändes i TV4. Vi har sjungit in våren på Rix FM (TV3) och i "Jenny Strömstedt" i TV4. ​ Kören har under 2014 uppträtt på Vänsterpartiets kongress och Gudrun Sjödéns 8-marsfirande. It didn't always work the way we'd planned it to but we gave our best and now are looking forward to you and the celebration we are going to have together. Due to the fact that there are so many more new choirs, this festival is going to be bigger than was to be expected; but naturally we're glad about that. The festival's capability of living has been questioned by some lately. Yet, we feel it must not die. Besides being an exciting and colorful gay event it is also a formidable stage from which to claim our rights. It gives us the opportunity to meet one another, to communicate, share. Of course it is also a place to show off our famed qualities, may they be distributed in earnest or in dripping self-irony. Lets show them we're there. Lets show them we're colorful, playful, powerful. "Let's sound our barbaric yawp over the roof of the world" as Walt Whitman would say.
