We warmly welcome the following new member choirs to Legato. We are now 114 choirs in 18 countries with more than 3,700 singers. We are especially excited about the membership of choirs from two eastern Europe countries as their first representatives: Poland and Czech Republic.

We are a mixed choir from bass to soprano, from old to tenor with singers of all orientations. Our repertoire goes from Purcell to Zara Leander, from musicals to the comedian harmonists.

The Male choir Doodles is the only gay choir in the Czech Republic. The choir was founded in September 2011 in Prague. Due to a wide focus conductors Foltýnka Thomas and Mark Stanky from Doodles can hear a wide variety of genres ranging from Renaissance music and folk songs, through renowned works of classical male choral works of the 19th and 20th centuries, an opera or operetta to the spiritual, musical, famous melodies Beatles or pop from the 80s and 90s. The choir sings both a cappella and with accompaniment, some songs, a well choreographed.

Since its inception Doodles grown almost doubled, and currently counts 30 singers. Doodles in their ranks pleased to welcome another enthusiast, comes the idea of ​​Czech gay choir as interesting and who wish to participate on the elimination of prejudice and spread of mutual respect through music. This offer applies not only singers, but other musical and non-musical oriented artists.

Doodles are busily engaged in broad family of LGBT choirs in Europe. After a joint appearance with the London Gay Men's Chorus in 2015 on the new stage of Prague's National Theatre, the choir was 2016 in Paris for the gay & lesbian choir Podium Paris. Besides already looking to 2018, when Munich is a big festival LGBT choirs "Various Voices".

Rainbow Symphony Cologne

Cologne is Germany’s fourth largest city and home to one of the largest and most visible gay communities in the world. Founded in 2007, Rainbow Symphony Cologne is the city’s first LGBT symphonic orchestra. Through our music, we speak out against discrimination of all kinds. We are especially committed to promoting equal rights and acceptance of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people. Musicians from all over Germany as well as many other countries including Switzerland, Belgium, France and the USA meet converge in Cologne twice each year for a weekend of rehearsal culminating in a concert performance. Edinburgh Gay Men's Chorus

Edinburgh Gay Men's Chorus was formed in 2007. Our purpose is to entertain our audiences, provide a fun, sociable and supportive environment for our members and lend support to charitable organisations. Performing two major concerts a year, the Chorus is also available for private bookings and charity fundraising events.

Sotto Voce - Pop Choir

Sotto Voce is the pop choir of the LGBTQ community center "WuF e.V." in Würzburg. We are about 40 singers of different ages and with various musical backgrounds, who are all connected by our dedication to and enthusiasm for singing pop songs that are excitingly arranged for up to eight voices by our three choral directors. Our repertoire covers a wide spectrum, ranging from ABBA to Adele and from Eric Clapton to Ed Sheeran. To challenge ourselves, we venture into gospel, rock, film music, jazz, and classical music.

Qwerty Queer

QwertyQueer - first LGBT Choir of Ukraine, the idea was announced in August 2014 during the queer week Munich-Odessa and its implementation started in January 2015 in Odessa on the initiative and full support of the community center "QueerHomeOdessa".

Omphalos Voices

Omphalos Voices is the first chorus rainbow of Umbria and is open to all and everyone. The girls and boys of Omphalos Voices believe that the appreciation of differences, confrontation and respect of identity, inclusion of all and all values are now heritage of the whole society and that the dynamics of a choir are the ideal environment to better express the synergy between different voices that link the harmony of the whole. Omphalos Voices choir is the first LGBT-friendly Umbria, is supported by the Omphalos, and aims to create a musical environment open to all people who believe in equality against any discrimination. Why so many voices together can change the world! The group was founded at the beginning of 2015 and debuted May 17, 2015 on the occasion of the International Day against homophobia and transphobia in the review "I sing for you - Voices for Equality". Omphalos Voices is a member arcum (Regional Association of Choirs Umbrians).

Roma Rainbow Choir

The Roma Rainbow Choir was founded at the end of August 2006, from an idea of ??what was to be its director Giuseppe Pecce (until December 5, 2014). The Choir is proudly made up of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersexed, heterosexuals, who, through music and song, struggling to spread the culture of respect for any form of love and self-determination. In order that no one should feel threatened, ridiculed, discriminated, marginalized, because of the need to express their human and emotional identity, or simply their free uniqueness by a fence discriminatory called "norm".

Canonve Inverso

Canon Inverso is an association of people who share a passion for music and singing, looking over sexual orientation and gender identity of each. Our main business is realized in forming a choir is a musical representation of the community * LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex) and straight together and we want to spread the love for music, especially choral, contributing in this way to break down social and cultural stereotypes unfortunately still present in our society. The group was founded in the spring of 2013 in Padua as a project within the Circolo Arcigay Tralaltro, but soon, the success and the need for organizational autonomy have led Canon Inverso to form association in January 2014.

Schwullesbischer Chor Köln

The "Gay & Lesbian Choir Cologne" was founded in October 2010 as a project of the Cologne University of Music and Dance and improvises to the live-arrangements by music director Jürgen Terhag in which the structure of a mixed choir is completely broken. There are no fixed male and female voices still notes nor conductor; the polyphony is developed at the moment of singing improvisation: musica ex aermolo.


Eastern Europe Development

Legato has, for some time, wanted to support the development of LGBT choruses in Eastern Europe and to support new choirs etc.

The Board is glad to welcome Ian Doyle who has volunteered to work closely with the Legato Board to liaise with and support developing Eastern European choirs.

Ian is a founding member of Homonics, an Irish LGBT chorus which is a member of Legato. He was Festival Director of Various Voices Dublin 2014 and has many years experience running large events, and also served on the committee and as Chairperson of Gloria, Dublin's Lesbian and Gay Choir. He has also attended many LGBT Choral festivals in Europe and in North America.

3rd Komos International Choral Composition Competition

, in collaboration with AltrEdizioni Casa Editrice, announces the 3rd Komos International Choral Composition Competition, the chief aim of which is to promote the creation and distribution of new choral repertoire related to LGBTQ culture. Participation is open to composers of any nationality, age, sex, or sexual orientation.

The Competition is dedicated to an original, unpublished composition for men’s chorus (TTBB), a cappella. The maximum duration of the work is five (5) minutes. The text must be based on gay-themed or homoerotic poetry or prose in its original language.

Texts should be in the public domain. When this is not the case, permission to set a text and publish it subsequently must be obtained in writing from the author or copyright holder and must be enclosed with the entry form.

Last call to join the European Queer Choir in Denver, USA Summer 2016

Dear singing friends

I hope this reaches you well. As you may know, I am the Musical Director of the European Queer Choir. We are doing a final call out for singers to join those who have signed up to go to Denver, USA for the GALA Choruses LGBT singing festival Summer, 2-6th July 2016. We are truly European with singers from the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany so far.

Our rehearsal weekend is taking place on 22-24th April in central London, England.

Gala Koor

from Amsterdam, Netherlands

The Galakoor, Gay and Lesbian Amsterdam choir, is the first pink classical choir of the Netherlands, based in Amsterdam. It is a classical choir for gay men and women and their lovers. The repertoire consists of classical music from Bach. This choir will provide music making level and place for fun and friendship. In many large Western cities are already classic pink choirs, but not yet in the Netherlands. That is about to change.

Hello, we are Checcoro, the first LGBT choir of Milan: a choir made up of people of all sexual orientations who care about the affirmation of human and civil rights for all people, without discrimination of sex and/or sexual orientation and recognition of the family as a social institution formed by two adults and based on mutual love.

Our aim is to sensitize people through group singing a cappella, primary expression of harmony and community of feelings, of proposing to the other without intermediaries he 'aids, through the sole use of the voice.

We sing whenever there is need to reaffirm and defend the rights of LGBT people, which are human rights, and therefore of all. We sing on stage, in public, on the street, but also to private parties and weddings. And if you have an opportunity to offer us, please contact us!

Choral Con Fusion

Choral Con Fusion is an informal, inclusive choir that has come from very humble beginnings from an idea over a cup of coffee. In under two years, we have grown into a four-part, mixed-voice group of friends, who enjoy the social gathering as much as the music. We have sung in a variety of contexts, from the Rebel Awards to memorial and carol services, and have a range of repertoire from Classical to pop music.

Composition Competition

The Fourth Choir (London LGBT Choir) is announcing a choral composition competition to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, which will fall on 23 April 2016. The winner of the competition will receive a prize of £1000 and the winning composition will be premièred by the Fourth Choir at a Memorial Concert on 23 April 2016 in London’s historic Middle Temple Hall.

The 400th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s death will be marked by major celebrations but the Fourth Choir wants to ensure that we are also celebrating his sexuality. Very few people know that Shakespeare wrote 126 sonnets describing his love for a beautiful young man. We want to change that!

Ireland's only lesbian gay bisexual transgender straight' choir CHORAL CON FUSION from Cork has released its first single in support of a yes vote in Irelands same-sex marriage referendum an May 22th 2015.

The idea for We Love The Same – A Song For Equality "came up over pints after rehearsals last October" choir member and the composer of the song Karl Fradgley said.

Mallorca Gay Chorus Festival

We are very happy about the developments in southern Europe. Not only Italy is preparing his first Cromatica festival (see our last newsletter) but also Spain is running one in short time.

To Russia with love

Le Zbor published a music video expressing solidarity with the LGBT citizens of Russia

On the occasion of the opening of Olympic games in Sochi, Le Zbor, Croatian lesbian and feminist choir (the first lesbian and feminist choir in southeastern Europe), published a video for the song Katjusha, expressing its solidarity with the LGBT citizens of Russia and worldwide.

Review Legato Meeting 2013 and Various Voices 2018 Call for bids

Dear friends,
six weeks ago the annual Legato meeting was held in London and for the first time it was combined with a great come together with our friends of the board of Gala (north american choral association). The London Gay Men's Chorus was host of the meeting and organized together with Fruitvox (the team of the former Various Voices London) an inspiring workshop "Beyond the rainbow" for the Legato and Gala delegates prior of the Legato meeting. You can find a summarisation here.
The main items of the Legato meeting was the presentation about the developments of the Various Voices Festival 2014 in Dublin, the road map for the Festival 2018 and the election of the board. Mary Fyfe was stepping down from the Board. Many thanks for her service since 2007. Martin Gerrits and Dominik Jakob were reelected and Bernadette Manning of Glória, Dublin completed the new board. Please find attached and on our website the minutes of the Legato meeting. Many thanks to the London Gay Men's Chorus for the wonderful organisation of this weekend and also for their great concert on Saturday night. The next Legato meeting will be during the Various Voices Festival 2014 in Dublin.


We are delighted and proud about a special honour: on June 15th the head of the Various Voices London Team and former volunteer Chairman of The London Gay Men’s Chorus, Martin Brophy has been awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours List in recognition of his work promoting and bringing together lesbian and gay choirs and singers from across the world. Congratulations and thanks from us all.


The new board worked the last weeks on the road map of the Various Voices Festival 2018. Legato meeting 2011 in Dublin

in June this year, the delegates at the meeting in Dublin were informed about the preparations for the next Various Voices Festival 2014. We were excited about the opportunities presented by the organising Dublin team at the university campus for the choral event. In addition, Mary Fyfe, Dominik Jakob and Martin Gerrits were confirmed as board-members for another two years.

We are very happy to announce our new members:

Unfortunately the "Berliner Heartchor" from Germany broke up and closed its membership this year.


The team from Various Voices Berlin 2001 fixed their accounts an made an extraordinary donation to LEGATO about 10.000,00 Euros. Legato signed an agreement to use the donation only for supporting the organisers of further european Various Voices Festivals. The money is given form Legato as a flat loan to the organisers in an early state but has to pay back in the time when the first participant fees are collected. We appreciate the "Team Berlin" for this great help.


Unfortunately till now there is no application for hosting the next festival. Team London is happy to help with any information and knowledge support.
